Michelle attended her first birth as a Doula in 2009. At this birth, mom progressed so quickly that the midwife didn't make it in time for the birth. So Michelle provided loving support to mom while calmly encouraging dad to catch his baby. After this incredible birth, Michelle was hooked! Now, she has now attended over 100 births, and she has had 3 natural births of her own. Michelle is compassionate, supportive, positive and encouraging. She is very knowledgeable and well educated on pregnancy and birth. She brings a sense of calm and peace to every birth she attends. She trusts the body's ability to birth, and she teaches women to have confidence within themselves allowing them to have a more enjoyable pregnancy and birth. She has experience with hospital, birth center and home births and is happy to support moms with whatever choices they make for their birth. Michelle also works with a group of experienced and dedicated Doulas called North Florida Doulas. They collaborate and work together so moms always have a back up Doula. If you have any questions regarding Doula services, call Michelle. She would be happy to discuss how she could support you throughout your pregnancy and birth.

What is a Doula? {Copied from the DONA International website}

The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.

Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

A Birth Doula

  • Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth

  • Stays with the woman throughout the labor

  • Provides emotional support, physical comfort measures and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping the woman get the information she needs to make informed decisions

  • Facilitates communication between the laboring woman, her partner and her clinical care providers

  • Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience

  • Allows the woman's partner to participate at his/her comfort level
